Ever few months, a design market takes place at El Matadero, a former slaughterhouse turned cultural center and arguably the city's coolest venue. If you've never been, this weekend's your chance! Expect to see over 160 designers, workshops, live performances and 20 food trucks, plus much more! El Matadero is just a few stops away from Sol. Entrance to El Mercado Central de Diseño costs €2. The Hovse Market Second Edition by Naked Madrid

The Hovse is a Christmas-inspired market that is taking place in a vacant 3-story mansion in Chamberí. Just walk in, explore the different stands selling jewellery, clothing and other nicknacks; and then head up to the top floor for food and drinks. There's also a rooftop. Don't miss the chance to support a Madrid-based band playing tracks from their recently released EP "Hello You!" (Have a listen here) together with classic and new Forasterian creations.  Forasteros is made up of a group of international musicians playing a mix of folk, swing and gypsy-jazz music. Rave Market is sponsoring a special edition charity event called "Cambio de Percha" ('hanger exchange') this weekend at Truss Market, inside Barclaycard Center in Barrio Salamanca. Head over to Desperate Literature on Friday night at 8pm for an evening of poetry with James and Marian Womack, reading from James's newest translations of the great Vladimir Mayakovsky. Thanks go out to Carcanet Press for giving Desperate Literature the rights to print a limited edition pamphlet of the poems to accompany the evening. Not only will there be poetry, but we'll also be swilling Vodka like there's no tomorrow!

British Shorts is a new theatre company made up of all native English professional actors on a mission to provide Madrid with good quality short and one-act plays in English. Their first micro-theatre production, 'Ten.Ten.Ten', was running at El Escondite in La Latina throughout January and due to its success, it's now been extended to February as well. You can come watch them perform every Wednesday this month at 8:30pm, 9pm and 9:30pm. Tickets cost €4.50.
